Man great book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remembering buying the book, and i brought it home and about 30 pages into the book, it had a plethora of information in it, the relaxation techniques worked, and i swore to god that i almost had an OBE experience, it wasn't scary as i had thought , but since it was my first time i think i lost my concentration, (i skipped a few pages to see that part real quick) But it is definantly worth the money, hell it's worth it's weight in GOLD,SILVER,COPPER, and anything valuable to the equation, in laymen's terms JUST BUY THE BOOK!

I now want to remember my dreams
At first I was scared, but Craig's book made me relize that there is nothing to be scared of. He showed me how to look at my dreams from another perspective. To ask what does this dream teach me. He teaches ways to help, like how to use the ink blots and he gives examples. The imaginary friend method and we must not forget the drink water before you go to bed method. I never knew that it could be this fun or this easy. It used to scare me. Now, I look forward to dreaming and remembering my dreams. I am so amazed when I look back on my dream diary...the things that I have drempt, and what they now mean to me. I have learned much from this book, and if I can, you can. I am looking forward to buying and learning from his other books too!

The Ring of the Nibelung Book 2: Siegfried & Gotterdammerung: The Twilight of the Gods

Stunning Conclusion to a Powerful Drama
The story of one of Wagner's timeless operas, adapted here into comic form. I do not know the original, but this version makes me wish to find out more. It is comprised of 4 parts collected into two books, corresponding to the original 4 operas, which were independant but held together in a loose confederation to make on complete whole.

This is continued from Vol. 1.

Siegmund's son, Siegfried, is raised by Alberich's ambitious brother, who wants the ring held by Fafnir the giant, now a dragon. Siegfriend reforges his father's sword, and with it he slays first Fafnir and then the dwarf who would kill him for the ring. Alberich, in the meantime, is watching mirthfully. Voton looks for advice from the first goddess, then meets Siegfriend on his way to win Brunhildé He shatters Voton's spear and climbs through the river of fire, and at the top wins love in the former Valkyrie.

The series wraps up in Gotterdammerung, twilight of the gods. Siegfried sails out to find his fortune, and meets a kingdom run by several characters out to ensnare the power of the ring. With a powder they make the hero fall in love with a princess, and pledge to retrieve Brunhilde for the king -- and the ring for his advisor. After a blood-oath he sails away to do this. The valkyrie is visited by one of her fellow maidens-at-arms, demanding Brunhilde throw the ring into the Rhine, but she refuses, claiming it as a symbol of her love. Siegfriend, in guise of the king, finds her and wins her again, this time for another. It is seen that the advisor is Alberich's son, thus his interest in the ring. A marvelous feast is prepared for a double-marriage on the king's return, when Brunhilde finds out she was tricked; she then helps this advisor and the king to devise a way to kill him. Siegfried is warned by mermaids, but refuses to grant them back the ring. He is later tricked into talking with longing of the king's new wife, and the king's advisor promptly slays the warrior; later that night, in a duel, he also kills his brother the king. Brunhilde demands a funeral pyre built, and in the end, everyone dies and everything burns.

Even such a long summation can barely do this dense and powerful opera justice. Rather than the standard practice of rewriting or removing speech in parts, nearly everything is kept, translated directly from the original words of Wagner. The translation itself is very nice, keeping an archaic and formal syntax, while remaining accessible to modern readers. It is similar to Shakespeare or any contemporary, high without pretnetion. While the music cannot be included, the songs remain, to be fleshed out instead by lush art. The parallel goes deeper, in fact; as mentioned in the introduction, where Wagner's music has its lietmotifs, quickly recognizable strains that pull the whole together, so does the art include its own repeated motifs.

The story is classic, and told as well as befits a master. The politics between the gods is as fierce or more than that between men, and between them battles and intrigue rage. No major point is left unexplored, nothing forgotten and left to the wayside. Each character introduced comes back to play at least once, most exiting only through death. So much goes on that it is dizzying to keep up, but the intention is never to leave the reader behind, so it isn't overly difficult to follow. Even the reintroductions that catch the reader up on the events of each previous part are handled deftly. The art is vivid and colorful, very detailed and realistically shaded and textured. At times it seems more like acrylic paint than simple color press. The scenery is well detailed, matched by the people, whose actions and expressions are each striking and individual. While characters are seen from many angles and perspectives, anatomy of each is still proper. The story is very visual and cinematic; some places are very dense and wordy, while sometimes pages go by with no words needed. The fights in particular flow this way, becoming very abstract, yet the action clearly laid out. Russel is very comfortable with his ability to tell a tale however it needs to be told, certainly.

Excellent Adaption of the Ring cycle
This is a beautifully illustrated and translated two-book comic adaption of Wagner's Ring cycle. P. Craig Russell's defends his belief that he could translate the opera music into images and create a powerful fantasy saga. The art is fantastic: Russell draws beautiful panels - the covers of these two books are a great example of the art inside. The translation into English is melodramatic (well, it's opera) and powerful. I can't praise these books enough. This is my favorite graphic story since I read, and re-read, Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, and these two volumes will be accompanying me on all my future moves.

Santiago De Murcia's "Codice Saldivar No. 4": A Treasury of Secular Guitar Music from Baroque Mexico (Music in American Life)
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Illinois Pr (Txt) (December, 1995)
Author: Craig H. Russell
Average review score:

Volume two - A treasury of guitar music
The name is right. Many of these pieces are tresures. Volume 2 includes photos (a little too small... each is about 3.5 x 5 inches) of all 94 folios in Codice Saldivar 4(some enhanced because the original has sustained water damage). Also included are transcriptions to the sixty nine pieces in the manuscript. This is a scholarly edition and the transcriptions are for study, not for performance. Do not expect to see fingerings for either right or left hand or other indications for modern guitar.

Guitar in Spain & France circa 1700--packed with info.
This book is a must read for anyone interested in the Spanish baroque circa 1700 as well as info on transport of this music to the New World. Vol. 2 is of less use as the guitar tablature is barely readable. Michael Lorimer's facsimile edition of the Saldivar Codex is the definitive one to get.

Scene Design and Stage Lighting

An indispensable reference book for all theatre techies !
Working backstage? Asked by your local community theatre to pitch in doing props? Foolishly said, "Of course I can build a tree(Silly fool only God can)! Here are the helpful hints and clues that will point you in the right direction without looking like a total fool. Design, construction, lights and sound- Oren Parker has it all. This latest edition is my third copy! They just keep getting better and better. This "rumor" best explains the abilities of one of the authors. A colleague once related the story in which Oren Parker showed up in the university scene shop in a three piece suit, painted a full back drop and walked out without a drop of paint on the suit. I'd be interested in knowing how true this is but not any less impressed with how informative this book has been for me. Well worth the exorbitant price.

Invaluable guide for novices and professionals
I can't tell you how often I've found myself saying "I'm a carpenter, not a designer!" when asked to design a set. I've always muddled through, but now, with this book in hand, I've found 100% more confidence in my designs. Invaluable for the lighting designer who wants to better understand scenic design, and for the scenic designer who wants to understand lighting design. Buy it!

Secrets of Ayurvedic Massage
Published in Paperback by Lotus Press (01 September, 2000)
Authors: Atreya and Atreya Craig Smith
Average review score:

Secrets Shared.
Atreya's bodywork background comes to the fore in this offering of knowledge called "Secrets of Ayurvedic Massage." This book is a very detailed insight into the use of "Massage" in the Ayurvedic health system. The beauty of this book is its detail to all aspects of Ayurvedic approach to body work, from its technique based on individual diagnosis to its information on the Ayurvedic energies of oils. This book is packed full of information. It also goes beyond what is being offered in other books dealing with the subject by sharing the knowledge of the effects on the subtle body. You will find topics such as "The place of massage in Ayurveda", "The Importance of Prana in Ayurvedic Massage", "The Place of Meditation in Ayurvedic Therapies" "The Appropriate Use of Oils, Herbs and Powders" to name a few. Also of great help to my own studies and practice of Ayurveda were the chapters on "Nadis - The Subtle Currents in the Body" and "Marmas - The Subtle Pranic Points in the Body." This book contains much information on these topics with very good charts. Atreya's own experience with bodywork is his guiding light as he guides the reader through knowledge gained through practice. For my school studies of Ayurvedic massage I used what information I took in notes and then used this book (not the text book that we received) for my study. I am still referring to this book in my practice to become a better bodywork practitioner. I would also recommend Atreya's earlier book "Prana - The Secret to Yogic Healing" to any one wanting to further explore Prana/ energy and bodywork. Thank you Atreya.

An ayurvedic gem!
If one wishes to read more "in-depth" material that goes into the Ayurvedic fundamentals in detail then Atreya's previous books, this book along with "Practical Ayurveda: Secrets for Physical, Sexual & Spiritual Health", "Ayurvedic Healing for Women: Herbal Gynecology" and all deal with this. As a student of Ayurvedic medicine I can honestly say that Atreya's knowledge is unquestionable. ~ Brenden Skudder

Small Animal Clinical Nutrition
Published in Hardcover by Mark Morris Institute (06 January, 2000)
Authors: Michael S. Hand, Craig, D. Thatcher, Rebecca L. Remillard, Philip Roudebush, Lon D. Small Animal Clinical Nutrition Lewis, MS Hand, RL Remillard, P Roudebush, and CD Thatcher
Average review score:

Very technical but very useful.
The 4th edition of Small Animal Clinical Nutrition is significantly different from the first 3 editions -- expanded, more information, different editors, different organization, etc.

Much of this volume is more technical than the average reader wants or needs. It is a textbook used in veterinary schools. But a dedicated reader could gain much from it. Even the average reader could benefit from the chapters on commerical pet foods and on home prepared diets.

Contributions
Is good to see this book is not just written by nutriologist, there is an important contribution of clinicians dedicated to specific areas.

Sondheim & Co
Published in Paperback by DaCapo Press (September, 1994)
Author: Craig Zadan
Average review score:

Are there six stars available?
This is by far the best book written about Stephen Sondheim. Unfortunately it only goes so far as Into The Woods from 1987. Zadan uses candid quotes and photos with an often surprising honesty. I know this book is often said to be unavailable, but I tell you it's still out there. And it's worth the look. Don't go anywhere near Meryle Secrest's new book on Sondheim.

Worth the $20!
Buy the book!(No intended reference to "Ellen") Well written and infomative, this book is best read after seeing or hearing one of your favorite Sondheim shows... (I know, it's hard to choose.)Unfortunately, doesn't have sections on "Assassins," "Passion," or "Wi$e Guy$," but the "Into the Woods" section is beautiful, as are the extensive B&W pics.(No, it's not a railroad-Black and White) One last note: Sondheim and Lapine, as well as many of their actors and actresses, are interviewed and written about, a rarity in a business where tabloids dominate.

Your Taste Buds Will Love This Book
The recipes in this books are creative but simple. I recently took it along on a four day fishing trip to Lake Fontana where I cooked a "Brandy-Peppercorn" venison steak that everyone said was the best venison they had ever eaten! This is a book no outdoor sportsman should be without.

A fantastic collection of the best wild game recipes.
I recently received a copy of The Sporting Chef's Favorite WildGame Recipes and it is a great collection of recipes for all types ofwild game. Published by Arrowhead Classics, Inc., Leysath's book brings a new flavor to wild game. I have personally met Scott and can attest to the great taste his recipes bring to wild game. This is a "must buy" for anyone who hunts or just likes to eat wild game. We can enjoy the healthy benefits of wild game (lower in fat and free of hormones, etc) and also enjoy the flavor. Check it out!

Gotta Have This Book
This was one of the best books I have ever read. I couldn't put it down. The stories were so descriptive it felt like you actually witnessed it. I have always been fascinated with aliens, ghosts, the paranormal and the supernatural. If you are like me then this is definately the book for you!

A Perfect Title
I'm a skeptic about many things, but some things just can't be explained or ignored. This book grabbed me and made me wonder about some events in my own life that were both profound and beyond explanation. I hope they write a follow-up! Skip Knowles
